Caring for Your Dried Wreath: Tips for Longevity and Beauty

A dried wreath is more than just a decoration—it’s a way to bring the charm of your garden indoors. Flowers in their dried form seem to take on more detail, allowing us to enjoy their textural qualities differently than when they are fresh. I love how dried wreaths warm up my spaces, especially during the gloomier months, offering a touch of nature’s beauty to brighten any room.  It’s one of my favorite ways to enjoy the harvest from my gardens year-round!

General Care Tips

Dried wreaths are delicate and require gentle handling to maintain their beauty. Here are some tips to ensure your wreath lasts as long as possible:

  • Handle with Care: Avoid rough handling to prevent breakage of delicate flowers and foliage.
  • Avoid Direct Sunlight: Prolonged exposure to sunlight can cause colors to fade.
  • Keep Away from Moisture: Humidity or dampness can lead to mold or deterioration.
  • Minimize Shedding: Spraying your wreath with a clear lacquer or even hairspray can help prevent shedding. Keep in mind that wreaths hung on frequently used doors may shed more due to movement.

Hanging Your Wreath Indoors

When hanging your wreath indoors, choose a spot that’s free from excessive sunlight and humidity. Walls, interior doors, and mantles are perfect places to showcase your wreath and enjoy its beauty up close.

Outdoor Hanging in Protected Spaces

If you’d like to display your wreath outdoors, make sure it’s in a covered or protected area where it will stay dry. Even in a sheltered space, exposure to outdoor elements may shorten its lifespan. However, with proper placement, your wreath can still bring seasonal charm for months.

Life Expectancy

  • Indoors: With proper care, your wreath can remain beautiful for years, serving as a lasting reminder of the garden’s bounty.

  • Outdoors (covered): Expect one season of vibrant appeal if hung in a protected space.

Refreshing or Retiring Your Wreath

If dust accumulates on your wreath, a gentle cleaning with a blow dryer can refresh its look. When the time comes to retire your wreath, consider repurposing the materials into small bouquets, arrangements, gift decorations, or use them for crafts. Ultimately, you can compost your wreath so that the cycle of growth and regrowth can continue!

Share Your Style

I would love to see how you style your wreath! Share your photos and tag our farm at @vanHacres on Facebook and Instagram.
